lives of african americans

Adnan Razzaq

Somewhere around late 1700 century Benjamin Banneker wrote a letter to thomas jefferson, former secretary of state, stating how slaves around the U.S are being treated.  however he wasnt a slave himself, he pleaded to the writer of the decleration of independence that african americans are also human and should be treated like one. He also stated that blacks were always looked upon and that they are incapable of mental abilities.  In the letter he mentioned how they fought against the british. Moreover, he said if we are all christians and belong to the same family then why is it that people with dark skin are being held against their own will.

On the other hand olaudah equiano, an african slave witnessed all the horrific scenes when he was traded from one slave traders to another.  In his text he mentioned how the sick or dead slaves were thrown off the ship as they were brought to the Americas.  however his journey wasnt completely horrific,he himself was amused by witnessing things that he saw for the first time.

Most of us would say that it would be impossible to feel what equiano felt but i think we can get the idea after reading his text.  in my opinion i think he was scared, feared but at same time he has amazed.  To slave traders it was more about the money and property they owned.  they didnt care whatsoever about "same sensations".

  1. Well in my opinion, you started well by introducing the text and all, your paragraphs are well structured as you use one paragraph for each argument which I find realy appropriate. Your opinion in your conclusion seems interesting but the only thing lacking here is more description, analysis and argument in your work.. It would make it more easier for your audience to have an idea of what your talking about. But good job in general.
